It’s the Little Things…

My birthday has come and gone once again, so I guess it’s time to buck up and get back on a diet, as it was totally blown out of the water this week due to a week long birthday celebration, but hey…why not?  It’s the little things that make me happy & this week was full of those little things.

  •  I was taken out on Sunday by someone from back home, which was awesome to get to see someone from my hometown!
  • On Monday, met up with the bestie after work at a new restaurant to celebrate her birthday!
  • Tuesday…the bestie came back to work after having yet another Monday off.
  • On Wednesday, it was my Uncle’s 50th b-day & my sister called via FaceTime to wish me a Happy Birthday early since she had to work on my b-day.
  • Thursday was my birthday & even though the day at work dragged on painfully slow, I came in to a fully decorated office by the bestie, even though I told her no decorations were necessary, cupcakes, a bag full of goodies (2 bottles of wine and The Muppet Movie)  Stay tuned…that may make for an interesting night this weekend!  Plus, a couple of cards signed by several co-workers…some may have been held at knifepoint by the bestie to sign the card, which was nice.  I also got an unexpected gift of a picture frame from a  super sweet co-worker.  And was met in the hall way by tons of birthday wishes throughout the day.  After work, it was off to meet the bestie for yet another birthday dinner & a yummy b-day dessert of strawberry shortcake.  Then when I got home, I was greeted by a birthday card in my mailbox from the parents and then a FaceTime call from the parents shortly after getting home, which is always nice…so much better than just talking on the phone.  Then about as soon as I hung up with them one of my best friends from high school called to say Happy Birthday as well.

Now it’s Friday, the birthday celebrations are over, the work week is over (Thank God!) & it’s back to the daily grind.  It may be time to even change some things up for year 34, but I still have to work on that list, but exercise is at the top.

Birthday Week Started Off With A Bang!

It’s Birthday Week! Yay!  Not really…it sucks getting older!  It’s not just my birthday week though…I actually have a friend or family that has a birthday everyday this week…GEMINI’S ROCK!  I started celebrating on Saturday with a couple glasses of vino while I got my craftiness on.

I decided I wanted to make some rag garland, so I got myself some twine and bought a jellyroll of colorful fabric at Hobby Lobby and got to work.  I just needed a little color in the house.  For now, it’s above the window, but I may just move it to a wall in my office where I paint.  It’s simple, but it’s the simple things that make me happy.

Then, I got a call from my BFF from before kindergarten on Saturday checking in to see if I was busy Sunday and to see if I’d mind going out to dinner with her dad that was passing through Orlando. Mind?  Hell no…I was ecstatic to get to see a familiar face from back home!  It was great to talk about what was going on back in my tiny little town that will forever be home no matter where I live.

Then along came Monday….the bestie’s birthday!  I had to work, but she was smart and took off her birthday.  Kick’in myself for not doing the same after a crappy day like today!  Anyways, she had a pretty good day on her own, doing her thing.  Then we met up at a new restaurant that we hadn’t been to before for some birthday dinner.  It was really good and had an awesome menu, so much so, that’s where we are going on Thursday again for my birthday.  Funny moment of the night was when I went to hand her the gift I got her that was in a gift bag next to me.  I had gotten her a cool little wine barrel cork cage to keep her wine corks in & I had a bottle of wine in the center to go with it.  Well, when I looked down I think my jaw hit the ground.  I had left the gift in my car all day and the heat of the sun must have been too much for that bottle of Moscato di Asti, as the cork must have blew out of the bottle in my car during the day….LOL!  She stuck another cork in it for the ride home and hopefully was able to salvage it.  It’s a shame to have to dump a bottle of wine down the drain!  Anyways, if you haven’t already…hop over to Simply Stephanie & wish her a Happy Birthday!

As for the rest of the week, I’ll be at work…BLAH!  They really should give you your birthday off…PAID!  It would make the week a lot better.  At least I’ll get to go out to eat with the BFF again for some good food and yummy dessert!  So much for my diet…it was blown out of the water this week big time, as I’ve eaten out twice this week and had dessert both times and it’s only Tuesday…Uh Oh!  Guess I’ll have to get back on track hard core after this week & perhaps start exercising (don’t hold your breathe on that one Stephanie)!  It’s just a matter of getting started that is the majority of the battle because once it’s a habit, you’re golden!  Well, it’s been a craptastic day & I may have to drink myself into a wine induce coma…especially after seeing this…

Sad panda!  I’ll be waiting for you Mr. McConaughey when it doesn’t work out with Camila.  In the meantime, I’m anxiously awaiting to see you rip your clothes off in your new movie, Magic Mike!

Later gators!

Vintage Vino…Give it a Visit!

Looking for a great wine bar in downtown Kissimmee?  Vintage Vino is your place!  After dinner & dessert, my friend and I were ready to unwind after a long work week and just kick back and relax with some wine and good conversation.  I absolutely loved everything about this place!  From the shelves of wines, brick walls, comfy chairs, a cozy nook with a high top (which is where we opted to sit) or you can go up to the bar if you prefer to sit there.  They also have outdoor seating available on the sidewalk if you choose.

As soon as we sat down, we were greeted and given a menu of there most popular wines, as were also informed that they have a lot more than listed on the menu, but those were the most popular.  I immediately put down the menu & just asked for some good suggestions.  I told her my favorite wines & my friend did the same.  I like white wines & she likes reds.  She said she had some good ideas of what we’d like and returned shortly with a couple of different bottles.  She poured me a taste, so I could try it first and she nailed what I like on the head and I quickly opted for a full glass.  She did the same for my friend, who didn’t opt for her first taste, but then the second type she got to taste, she loved and opted for a glass.  Our hostess did an excellent job at picking out the perfect wines, and she said she is better with beer & the owner, John, is the wine expert.

So we kicked back and had a good time just sitting and talking and enjoying our wine.  After a while, John, the owner came over and introduced himself and welcomed us to the wine bar.  He let us know a little about the place, hours, events & got us signed up to be on the e-mail list.  He also let us know that they have over 50 types of wines & 50 types of different beers to try by the glass.  They also always have different cheeses on hand, at all times, to try.

That being said, we decided to order a cheese platter.  Our hostess made sure and tried to find out our cheese preferences, so we made it easy and told her what we didn’t like.  She returned shortly with a sample for us to try before creating the platter, which was awesome.  You just don’t find service like that at many places.  We agreed that the cheese was delicious, so she went ahead and put that on our platter.  When she brought it out, it was so pretty…you almost didn’t want to eat it.  We had a softer cheese on one corner, a harder cheese on the other, with a couple different varieties of crackers, some sliced apples, a small bunch of grapes, some dried apricots and a few cocoa flavored almonds.  And what was even better….it paired perfectly with our wines!  So good!

It started to get late, so after sitting there for a couple of hours, we decided it was time to head home.  We will definitely be back to Vintage Vino soon, as we were really impressed with everything they have to offer!  If you’re in the area, please make it a point to stop in and check the place out.  It is very small & quaint, but don’t let that fool you.  What they lack in size they make up in all the different varieties of wines, beers & cheeses that are offered, as well as awesome service!
