The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

Knock, knock….anyone still there?  Sorry I haven’t posted an actually written post for a couple weeks.  It’s been crazy on the work front, so by the time the evenings & weekends roll around I usually sit in a coma from all the craziness during the week.  This week has been one of the roughest weeks in a long time.

The Ugly: – Crazy & chaotic changes at work that are just not well thought out.  One of those things where you’re just so overwhelmed by everything, you just want to cry in the morning when your alarm goes off.

The Bad: One of my closest friends from high school lost his 2.5 yr old little superhero this week.  He laid down for a nap on Monday & never woke up.  It’s been such a heartbreaking week with all of the posts on Facebook.  The amount of strength and pure faith I’ve seen from his posts this week has been simply amazing.  It was also pretty amazing that they had a “Celebration of Life” vs. a funeral.  They asked that everyone wear a superhero shirt or character shirt that a 2 year old would approve of and to please not wear black.  Hundreds of people posted pics this week of their character shirts or superhero capes that they were sporting that day in memory of little Grayden.  And even more people changed there profile pics to a superhero in honor of this precious little angel.  The support they received this week was just overwhelming.  I’m so grateful that they were surrounded with so much love this week.  Since I was unable to make the trip from Orlando to St. Louis to be there, I was grateful for all the pics that were posted and people that took video of the balloon release after the celebration.  I was glad I was able so see those little bits & pieces from afar.

Grayden.CollageThe Good:  In exactly 4 hours I’ll be picking up my parents from the Orlando International Airport!  Woo-Hoo!  After a week like this, I need a damn hug from my parents!  They are in town for my dad’s conference that lasts thru Wednesday afternoon, so they’ll be staying at the Disney Dolphin & Swan for the first part of the week & then they’ll be coming to my house until I have to take them back to the airport next Sunday.  Only plans we’ve got so far are dinner reservations at Disney’s Hoop De Doo Revue on Wednesday & then an airboat ride Thursday morning.  I’ll probably drag them up to the state park early Friday morning & show them all the manatees in the springs!  It’s an awesome site!  It’s been about a year since I was there last.

Manatees Galore at Blue Spring State Park

Since I’m a super awesome daughter…I went out this morning and rented a 2013 Dodge Dart for the week.  I only have an old 2-door car that I can’t run the A/C in or it sounds like it’s going to fall apart.  So, I opted to rent a four door car with A/C, because I know I hate climbing in and out of a 2-door car, so thought I’d make it easy on them.  It makes me nervous driving it though because they kind of make you feel really guilty if you opt out of insurance for the car, but it literally doubles the price, so I’ll just have to be super careful and hope everyone else on the road is too!

2013DodgeDartWell, that about wraps up my week…the good, the bad & the ugly.  With only two days of work next week & I took off the rest of the week…next week is going to be a whole lot better!  Have a great weekend!

October Foodie PenPal Reveal

Yay!  Time for my second Foodie Penpal reveal!  I’m not sure what part of the Foodie Penpal exchange I like better…..receiving a box of mystery goodies from someone or putting a box together myself to send to my partner.  It’s a pretty close tie, but I really like putting a box of goodies together and then hearing back about how much they liked everything.  Gives you that warm fuzzy feeling! 🙂

The day I came home from work and found my Foodie Penpal package on my doorstep, I ran inside and opened it up within about 30 seconds I was so excited….yeah, it doesn’t take much!  Just send me mail and I’m thrilled! My Foodie Penpal that sent me a package was Lisa who’s blog is Lisa’s World of Books if you’d like to stop over and check it out!  Lisa lives all the way up in Michigan & sent me a bunch of goodies!

Look at all that loot!  Nom, Nom, Nom!

These fruit strips from Stretch Island Fruit Co. were my favorite!  I used to get them when I lived in the Chicago suburbs.  They are a super healthy snack and count towards your fruit servings for the day!

Next up is a bar of dark chocolate.  Dark chocolate is my favorite, but I can’t eat it once it’s over 70% cocoa…just too bitter for me, but I’ve got a co-worker that will thank you!  I also love that this particular brand of chocolate donates 10% of the price of the bar towards saving endangered species.

Now, Larabars…I was familiar with, as I get them a lot, but I have never seen the Uber Larabar & let me tell you….it was DELICIOUS!  I love everything apple flavored and this did not disappoint!  As for the Perfectly Simple bar…I had never heard of these before and I was curious since it was toasted coconut, which I love!  I was expecting a chocolate covered coconut concoction, but there was no chocolate, which was nice for a change!  Especially since I grabbed this for breakfast one morning and I just can’t do super sweet stuff in the mornings and this was perfect!

I’m a peanut butter nut!  I’ve tried both of these before & they are so yummy!  These went perfectly with my…..

delicious Michigan apple!  One thing I miss about living in the midwest is getting to go to the apple orchards in the fall.  I don’t think they have them here in Florida.  So this was a real treat!

The last two items here are both Michigan made products, so I had never had either.  When Lisa e-mailed me and asked what I liked, I told her I like to eat healthy, but I’m open to anything.  So, to go towards healthy, she found these chips with no salt.  I tried them & have come to the conclusion that chips just aren’t the same without any salt.  As for the Faygo soda….did you notice the flavor written on the bottle?  Yes…it says CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE!  I didn’t know what to think when I seen this, as I had never heard of chocolate soda.  So I popped it in the fridge to get cold and had it a few days later when i was craving chocolate & it was one of the most odd, yet delicious things I’ve ever had.  I wouldn’t be opposed to trying it again!

Well, that about wraps up my reveal for October!  I sent my package to Erica, a fellow Floridian.  You can visit her blog here.  If you think you’d like to sign-up and take part in the Foodie Penpal exchange you can hop on over to sign up at Lindsay’s blog The Lean Green Bean.  You only have until November 4th to sign up for the November exchange!  Matches are e-mailed out on the 5th and the you have until the 15th of the month to put your package in the mail.  Don’t miss out on the fun!

Happy Halloween!

Blog Award Q&A

As I was catching up on some blog reading, I noticed the adorable Miss Stephanie over at Simply Stephanie, nominated me for a blog award.  Now I’m not one for doing the whole blog award thing, so if anyone out there has ever nominated me for an award and I didn’t mention it, please don’t be offended…I just don’t usually blog about it.  I figured I’d go ahead and at least answer the questions that accompanied this award, as I have a hard time not answering a list of questions when presented with said list.  If you read my blog…I nominate you for this blog award, so feel free to post on your blog and answer the questions below.  Oh, and if you are wondering what “Liebster” means, evidently it means “Favorite” in German.

1. If you could go out to dinner with anyone in the world (alive, not dead-that’s just weird), who would it be and why?

Mmm, I think if I could go out to dinner with anyone in the world I’d choose Prince Harry.  I love watching & reading up on the royal family, so I think it would be interesting to pick his brain and get the scoop from his point of view.  Plus, I have a thing for red heads! 🙂

2. More peanut butter or more jelly?

Most of the time, I’d say peanut butter. BUT…if I use it with orange marmalade…I choose more of that, as I’m like Paddington Bear when it comes to delicious orange marmalade!

3. If you could take a vacation to anywhere in the world, all expenses paid, where would it be and why?

That’s easy!  The number one place on my list since FOREVER has been Greece.  It’s absolutely stunning from all the pictures I’ve ever seen and I just think it would be awesome, not to mention seeing historic ruins!  Number two on this list is Fiji, just in case you were curious. 🙂

4. You win the jackpot with the lotto- what do you do?

I would make sure all of my parents debts were paid off and taken care of, plus give them a good chunk of it to do whatever they wanted…same for the little bro and sis.  Then I’d pay off my student loans and any debt and then invest in real estate to rent of additional income, then I’d open up a business or several of my own with any friends who wanted to join in…how fun?!

5. If you could create anything, what would it be?

World Peace (that’s my beauty pageant answer)

6. You are granted the ability to do whatever job you want- what is it?

Travel Writer….been at the top of my jobs list since I was super young.  Even got a degree in Travel & Tourism I loved the industry so much.

7. Most favorite book is…?

To Kill A Mockingbird

8. Most favorite invention to date is?

GPS because I’m horrible at using a map for directions.

9. If you could help the world in any one way, what would it be and why?

If it was possible…I would clean up the oceans completely, so all of the living creatures had the best environment possible to live and thrive in.

10. You find a magic lamp with a genie who grants you three wishes. What do you do?

1. Perfect Vision  2. An endless supply of cash  3. To be an awesome surfer

11. Why do you blog?

It’s one of my creative outlets.  I’ve always loved writing…especially about travel and vacations & such.  Plus, it’s an awesome way to get to know people from all around the world and make some pretty good friends.
