A Much Needed Saturday Out

Man…weekends are just too darn short!  After another crazy week at work this week, I decided I needed a day out on Saturday, so I made plans to meetup with some peeps at Downtown Disney around 1:00, so I could sleep in that morning and enjoy snuggling in my bed while the weather is cooler out.  Headed out the door around 12:30 and as soon as I got on I-4, it was a parking lot.  What is typically a 20 minute or so drive turned into a 50 minute drive….BLAH!  Once I finally got parked and met up with my peeps at the bar at Bongos, we decided to head over to Raglan Road for lunch.

RaglanRoadSince I slept in…I ended up eating a breakfast at 11:00, so I wasn’t hungry, so I just got dessert…bread pudding.  OMG…so good!  I would highly recommend getting this dessert if you get the chance, but you may want to order it and plan on sharing!  Unfortunately, I was only able to eat about 1/3 of the dessert, but since we were heading to the parks, I didn’t want to mess with getting it to go & everyone else was too full from there lunches to eat any of it.  It was really a shame for so much of it to go to waste….it was piping hot and came with a carmel sauce and a vanilla cream sauce that you could pour over the top of it….Nom,Nom,Nom!!  I’ll definitely be headed back to this place one of these days when I actually have an appetite!

RaglanRdBreadPuddingWhen we were all done, we headed for Epcot as our park of choice for the day.  It was nice and cool out and great weather for just walking around the park in a hoodie.  We ended up going on the Finding  Nemo ride & then The Land ride & then after that we walked around the World Showcase.  Unfortunately, the park was crazy busy for some odd reason…maybe because of the 3-day weekend for people with President’s Day off…not sure, but it was really odd for this time of year to see so many people.  To give you an idea…it was an hour wait if you wanted to do the little Viking boat ride in Norway, it was a 2 hour wait for Soarin’ & a 3 hour wait for Test Track!  Needless to say, after we walked completely around the World Showcase, we decided to check our Disney app to see what the wait times were like at Magic Kingdom & the other parks and they were insane.  So we decided to call it a day at the park.

I wasn’t in any hurry to go home, so a couple of us decided to just head back down to Downtown Disney and hit up a movie at the AMC movie theater.  We ended up deciding on “Hansel & Gretel”.  I love fairytale related stuff & I was quite curious on what kind of a twist they were going to put on this old fairytale.  The movie was actually pretty good to my surprise.  It was a bit too much on the guts and gore side for my taste, but it was still a pretty good movie.  Definitely not a kid friendly movie!  The witches are pretty “scary” looking and like I said…lots of blood and guts!

Hansel-and-Gretel-Witch-Hunters-2012-Movie-PosterAfter that, we called it a night and I headed home in another crazy amount of slow traffic on I-4.  So, by the time I got home, I just decided to have a nice hot cup of tea & read for the night before getting all cozy in bed.  All in all, it was a pretty good day out!

Saturday Morning Movies

Another weekend gone in a flash!  Hard to believe it’ll be July next weekend!  You know what that means….start your Christmas shopping now & you won’t have to fight with the crazies come November/December!  I’m ultimately going to have to ship all gifts this year, since I won’t get to go home for the holidays due to work, so it doesn’t really matter if I start shopping now or not because I’ll more than likely just do all of my shopping online, so I’ll only have to pay shipping once.  I’ll have to do Christmas in July and break out the Christmas movies, as they are my favorites.  I actually got a jump start and already watch “Elf” last weekend.  Sometimes you just need to go to a happy place and Christmas movies do it for me…that is when I can’t travel.

Saturday morning I was up and at it at 5:00am.  I’m not a morning person and I never get up before 7:30am, so I was slightly pissed I was wide awake at that hour, but I quickly calmed once I realized Netflix streaming had recently added Thor to watch instantly…so I was alright since I had Chris Hemsworth to stare at for a couple of hours.  When the movie was over I went ahead and got ready for the day & headed out the door around 10am to head to the 10:30 showing of Disney’s new movie, “Brave”

If you didn’t go out and watch “Brave” during it’s opening weekend, definitely put it on your list of movies to go watch.  Out of all the newer Disney movies….this one is definitely a favorite of mine now.  Maybe not so much for the storyline, but I loved the spunk of Princess Merida. One of the nice things about going to watch this movie is that I really didn’t have any idea of the storyline.  I mean most Disney movies are based on fairytales, but this one wasn’t any fairytale I was familiar with, so it was nice to see a totally original storyline.  I laughed through a good part of the movie as there was a lot of slapstick humor throughout the movie.  Plus, you’ve just gotta love the Scottish accent!  I also teared up a couple times in the movie as well, but I do that with most Disney movies.  There was also a Pixar short film before the movie called “La Luna” that was super cute.  I have read several reviews that said it was well done, but not one of Pixar’s best.  I would have to disagree, as I didn’t really care much for movies like “Cars 2” or “The Incredibles”.  Then again, I tend to enjoy a more fairy tale-esqe type movie and this definitely had those fairy tale aspects to it.  All in all, I give the movie a big thumbs up and would recommend anyone to go and watch it.  I seen several fathers with their girls at the movie and they all got a good laugh out of the movie.

Well, I’ll go ahead and leave it at that for now, as the rest of my weekend was a snore.  I did all of my running around after the movie Saturday.  I’m really glad I did because it’s done nothing but rain pigs and elephants the entire day on Sunday due to Tropical Storm Debby off the west coast of Florida.  All the rain made me want to take a nap, but I didn’t because I took a nap yesterday and then wasn’t able to go to sleep until 2:00am.  Hope everyone has a great week!

Later gators!

My Weekend: Snow White & the Huntsman, A New Book & Painting

Well, it was a pretty uneventful weekend here.  I was going to attempt to catch up on some sleep and sleep in Saturday morning, but I got woke up around 8:30 or so in the morning by the sound of my doorbell.  Threw on some clothes real quick…half asleep and eyes still not focused and answered the door and it was a damn person wanting to talk about some political candidate and blah, blah, blah.  Seriously?  Out and about that early in the morning….not a good way to gain votes!

Since I was up, I searched the the internet for vacation deals & came up empty handed. Sad panda 😦  It used to be so easy to find awesome deals, but those days seem to be no more.  If the airfare isn’t ridiculous, it’s the hotel….just can’t win!  I just need to win the lottery so I can travel to my hearts content!

I hadn’t been to the movies in quite a while, so I went ahead and decided to go see a matinee showing of  “Snow White & the Huntsman”.  I had been wanting to see it since I first saw the previews for it.  I absolutely adore any movie or show that is fairy tale related.  I know a similar movie came out earlier in the year called “Mirror, Mirror”, but I wanted to see this one first.  “Mirror, Mirror” looked more like a comedy, where “Snow White & the Huntsman” had more of a dark side to it.  Charlize Theron was incredible as the evil queen, Ravenna.  She is ultimately the reason why I wanted to see the movie, because she looked like she’d make an awesome evil queen from the previews and she did not disappoint!    Kristen Stewart…no matter how awkward she is–the camera loves her.  Now my favorite part of watching the movie….Chris Hemsworth as the Huntsman.  DREAMY!!!  I have to say he’s in my top five  favorite guys list…the man is just H-O-T!  I did have a difficult time differentiating him from his Thor character while watching the movie.  I guess he’ll always be Thor to me, but I’m okay with that! 🙂

Other than the movie and running some typical weekend errands, I didn’t do much.  Ran to Barnes & Noble to get my book fix and bought a new book called “Hush, Hush”.  It sounded pretty good from the back cover and it was on sale…SCORE!  After that, I ran into the art store….my weakness!  I managed to walk out cheaper than usually thank goodness!  Just picked up a handful of canvas’ & some cute birthday cards.  Then after I got home, I just went ahead and sat down and did a couple of paintings when I went to put my new canvas’ with my others.  The paint brushes were just calling my name.  Well, I’ll leave it at that for now, as I’ve rambled on long enough about a pretty boring weekend! What did you do this weekend?

Cheers,

Jenn

Movie Review: A Dolphin’s Tale

Happy Sunday, everyone!  Hope everyone took advantage of that extra hour we gained today!  I got up & did some cleaning and then went to a movie around 11am.  After that, I headed for the Altamonte Mall to check out a sale.  What a nice mall, wish I would have checked it out sooner!

Anyways, I decided to go see “A Dolphin’s Tale”, as I’ve been wanting to see it, since I seen the first previews.  After watching it, I kick myself for not going into marine biology, like I wanted to when I was growing up.  Put me in a tank with some dolphins, manatees, turtles, etc…you’d have one happy girl!  I may just have to settle, by finding a volunteer position somewhere, but wouldn’t it be great to get paid doing something that you absolutely love?!

A Dolphin’s Tale” has my favorite Harry Connick Jr., along with Morgan Freeman, Ashley Judd & Kris Kristofferson, just to name a few names you may know right off the bat.  The youngsters of the movie, Nathan Gamble and Cozi Zuehlsdorff really did a magnificent job in the movie & I’m sure this won’t be the last time we see the young stars!  This movie is all about a dolphin who was injured by getting tangled up in a crab trap.  The dolphin was taken in by a vet, played by Harry Connick Jr., who ran a marine animal hospital.  The dolphin was named Winter by the vets daughter.  The young boy that found the dolphin goes to the animal hospital to check on Winter and ultimately befriends him and helps in Winter’s rehabilitation.  Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage to Winter’s tail, they had to amputate.  The boy then motivates everyone around him in helping save Winter by having a prosthetic tail made for the dolphin & won over the hearts of everyone!

There is a lot more to the story, but you’ll have to go see it for yourself!  You won’t be disappointed!  You get that feeling, when you’re watching the movie that I would have to describe as when the Grinch’s heart grew three sizes…it just warms your heart to the very core and makes you smile from ear to ear.  It’s really a magnificent story, which is true by the way!  At the end, I found out the actual home of Winter is only two hours from Orlando, down in Clearwater, FL, so I think I’ll be making a trip down to visit this awesome creature in the near future.  I wish it was closer, so I could do some volunteer work at the aquarium, but I’ll have to look and see if there are any marine animal rescues a little closer to Orlando.  For those of you that don’t live in the sunshine state & would like to see Winter the dolphin, just go visit the website: http://www.seewinter.com and they have a web cam so you can see the dolphins playing in the pool. Very cool!
