Yay for the Freakin’ Weekend!

Happy Friday, y’all!  This has been the slowest week ever, so I’m hoping this weekend goes nice and slow, as well, but we all know it won’t!  It’ll more than like go by super fast and Monday will be flying upon us like those crazy creepy flying baboons from the new Oz movie.  Oh well, it is what it is….happens every week like clockwork!

Remember in my last post where I said that all of my posts I’ve written lately were in draft mode over on i.seekissimmee.com?  Well, if you head over there now, my first post has been published, so you’ll have about 10 more that will be published throughout the next week! Some of the posts you’ll see over there this week are for some pretty good places to eat, like Hawkers, Beaches & Cream, & Blue Bird Bake Shop.  You’ll also see my review of the musical dinner show the Hoop Dee Doo Revue, which is pretty spectacular, as well as things like the Boardwalk, Downtown Disney, shopping at The Loop & of course the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival.

Other than that, not much else going on.  Been doodling a bit in my sketchbook & playing around with my logo character.  Tomorrow is my 1 month weigh in.  I’ve been trying my best to be a good girl and eat more veggies and smaller portion sizes.  My goal for the month was to hopefully be down -10lbs, so fingers crossed I can hit that in the morning.  As of week 3, I was down 7.7, so far, so we’ll see!  Well, until I post again…yak at ya y’all later & have a fabulous freakin’ weekend!!

A Much Needed Saturday Out

Man…weekends are just too darn short!  After another crazy week at work this week, I decided I needed a day out on Saturday, so I made plans to meetup with some peeps at Downtown Disney around 1:00, so I could sleep in that morning and enjoy snuggling in my bed while the weather is cooler out.  Headed out the door around 12:30 and as soon as I got on I-4, it was a parking lot.  What is typically a 20 minute or so drive turned into a 50 minute drive….BLAH!  Once I finally got parked and met up with my peeps at the bar at Bongos, we decided to head over to Raglan Road for lunch.

RaglanRoadSince I slept in…I ended up eating a breakfast at 11:00, so I wasn’t hungry, so I just got dessert…bread pudding.  OMG…so good!  I would highly recommend getting this dessert if you get the chance, but you may want to order it and plan on sharing!  Unfortunately, I was only able to eat about 1/3 of the dessert, but since we were heading to the parks, I didn’t want to mess with getting it to go & everyone else was too full from there lunches to eat any of it.  It was really a shame for so much of it to go to waste….it was piping hot and came with a carmel sauce and a vanilla cream sauce that you could pour over the top of it….Nom,Nom,Nom!!  I’ll definitely be headed back to this place one of these days when I actually have an appetite!

RaglanRdBreadPuddingWhen we were all done, we headed for Epcot as our park of choice for the day.  It was nice and cool out and great weather for just walking around the park in a hoodie.  We ended up going on the Finding  Nemo ride & then The Land ride & then after that we walked around the World Showcase.  Unfortunately, the park was crazy busy for some odd reason…maybe because of the 3-day weekend for people with President’s Day off…not sure, but it was really odd for this time of year to see so many people.  To give you an idea…it was an hour wait if you wanted to do the little Viking boat ride in Norway, it was a 2 hour wait for Soarin’ & a 3 hour wait for Test Track!  Needless to say, after we walked completely around the World Showcase, we decided to check our Disney app to see what the wait times were like at Magic Kingdom & the other parks and they were insane.  So we decided to call it a day at the park.

I wasn’t in any hurry to go home, so a couple of us decided to just head back down to Downtown Disney and hit up a movie at the AMC movie theater.  We ended up deciding on “Hansel & Gretel”.  I love fairytale related stuff & I was quite curious on what kind of a twist they were going to put on this old fairytale.  The movie was actually pretty good to my surprise.  It was a bit too much on the guts and gore side for my taste, but it was still a pretty good movie.  Definitely not a kid friendly movie!  The witches are pretty “scary” looking and like I said…lots of blood and guts!

Hansel-and-Gretel-Witch-Hunters-2012-Movie-PosterAfter that, we called it a night and I headed home in another crazy amount of slow traffic on I-4.  So, by the time I got home, I just decided to have a nice hot cup of tea & read for the night before getting all cozy in bed.  All in all, it was a pretty good day out!

Salon Time, Shopping & Friends…

To put it short & sweet…I had a pretty good weekend.  I had taken Friday off & spent a good portion of the day at Aveda getting some new highlights/lowlights.

Then as soon as my appointment was done at Aveda, I headed to Ulta to see by brow girl.

Then on Saturday morning I got up fairly early & headed for the Orlando Premium Outlet Mall in search of a light coat, since I’m flying back him to Illinois on Friday for close to a week and a half & I know it’s going to be chilly!  It’ll probably be the temperatures I used to love, but Florida has spoiled me and chilly in Florida is 70 degrees.  Well, I made the mistake of going in the Coach store & then them handing me a 30% off coupon as soon as I walked in the door.  Doomed from the start!  I sharked the store about 5 times & finally narrowed down my choice & walked out with a brand new purse.  I love purses like most people love shoes, but I only buy a new purse maybe once a year and I use it till it’s falling apart, so I don’t feel bad.  Would love to have a matching wallet, but I have a hard time spending that much money on a wallet…buy that time, I wouldn’t have anything to put in it!
After the Coach store…I popped in one more store & grabbed a cute scarf & then headed home before I spent any more money.  After chilling out at home for a couple of hours & headed back out for an evening with friends at Downtown Disney.  The Festival of Masters art show was going on & it’s always neat to see all the Disney artwork.  The only downside of going to this even was parking…45 minutes driving around the parking lot before finding a spot to park…wasn’t a happy camper.  But the frown was quickly turned upside down when I met up with the BFF to scope out the art work.  They actually seemed to have a lot more art work out vs. last years event.

After looking around and working up an appetite, we quickly decided to do dessert first after walking by the Ghiradelli store and the amazing chocolate smell that was hanging in the air.  We ran in one of the shops and picked out one of the best chocolate cupcakes I’ve ever had….so good!  After shopping around for awhile, we finally decided we were ready for dinner & decided to try the House of Blues since we’d never ate there before.  Bad side…it was about an hour wait and then when we finally got in and seated it just wasn’t the best experience.  All of the workers were pretty rude, which is unusual when you’re in a Disney area!  Food was all overpriced and nothing to write home about…I don’t think I’ll be going back, but that’s just my personal opinion.  When I’m spending money to go out, I don’t appreciate rude service whatsoever!

After dinner…when met up with a good friend to catch up on life events and what not & just had a good time out walking and talking.  So Saturday was a pretty good day in my book!  Then Sunday I ran around and did a little more shopping and picked up some odds and ends & that was my weekend.  Now I’m counting down the days until Friday when I fly home to see family!  Can’t wait, but I will miss my friends in Florida that I’ve gotten quite used to getting someone out and about at least one day every weekend. 🙂

Downtown Disney Fun

If you’re tired from all the park hopping & just want to take a day to relax and do a little Disney themed shopping, then Downtown Disney is screaming for you to come & visit.  The great thing about Downtown Disney is that it is a great place to go for that Disney feeling & it’s free if you’re just browsing!  Parking is free too or there are free shuttles from all of the Disney resorts as well.  It’s also a great place to go if you had seen something in one of the parks and forgot to buy it, more than likely you’ll be able to find it here.

They have tons of shops, the biggest character store on Earth called World of Disney.  You can spend hours in here looking around at all they have to offer.  Also inside the store is the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique where little girls can go and get their princess on!  It’s so adorable to see some of the girls when they are all gussied up in their favorite princess dress, hair up and curled with an overabundance of glitter shimmering in their hair.  It would definitely be something your little darling would remember forever!  I know I’ve seen where some people do this in the morning and then hit up the parks & get some adorable photos with different characters throughout the parks.  I guess that’s the magic of Disney!

Also, throughout Downtown Disney you’ll see several amazing Lego statues.  They have a dragon/serpent type creature made entirely of Legos in the lake, as well as Lego creations of Snow White, Buzz & Woody, etc.  It’s really pretty cool.  I can’t imagine being the one having to create these masterpieces.  Little ones that are Lego maniacs will love seeing all of creations! And then of course they have the Lego store on site as well!

Now my favorite store at Downtown Disney has to be “The Art of Disney” store.  I’m love artwork and have loved all Disney related art since a young age.  So if you are like me, it might be best to go before payday, so you don’t have any money to blow because I could easily spend an entire paycheck here.  Seeing all of the artwork just gives you that good feeling deep down inside like you’re a kid again.  I really love seeing other various artist different renditions of characters and movie themes.  The last time I was their I refrained from buying anything for myself, but I bought by younger brother, who is a volunteer fireman a picture of Mickey Mouse shaking a fireman’s hand.  It was pretty cool & my brother loved it.

My other favorite store would have to be Mickey’s Pantry.  I’m not sure why, because I’m not much of a cook & I don’t do a lot of cooking, but I love all of the Disney themed cook wear.  I think I might just have to redecorate my kitchen the more I think about it.  You’ll find everything from a variety of coffee mugs, plates, cooking utensils, cookbooks, Mickey shaped pasta, spices, wine bottle toppers, etc…

If you get hungry from walking around and doing a lot of shopping, you’ll have no shortage of choices on places to eat at Downtown Disney.  When I went, my friend and I decided to eat at the Rainforest Cafe.  A word of advice….if you don’t care about sitting inside with all of the Rainforest like atmosphere and just want to relax, eat & enjoy the weather…request a table on the outside deck.  I didn’t even realize there was an outside deck option because they didn’t ask us when we put our name on the wait list, but my friend who knew mentioned it and we were the only people out there.  It’s a very nice deck area right over the lake.  It’s a great place to enjoy some good food, an awesome frozen drink and good conversation.  I even talked them into making me a drink they had never made.  It was a mango mojito, which was on the drink list, but I asked them if they good make it frozen, so they said they’d give it a shot and it was AMAZING!

I usually just go to Downtown Disney to walk around and browse, but there is so much more that is offered besides shopping and eating.  On the other side of Downtown Disney, you have the Pleasure Island area for the evening hours, House of Blues, AMC Dine-In Movie Theater.  If you’re wanting to take in a show, Cirque de Soleil is on site as well.  I haven’t had a chance to go yet, but I hear it’s spectacular.

The Festival of the Masters At Downtown Disney

Happy Sunday, everyone!  It was an absolutely beautiful day here in  sunshiny Orlando, FL!  I think it only got in the mid seventies, which was perfect weather for walking around the Downtown Disney Marketplace.  This weekend was The Festival of the Masters at Downtown Disney, so me and my bestie decided to make an afternoon of it!  As described on the Disney website, the 36th Festival of the Masters presented by Michaels® is a vibrant, open-air art festival in the Downtown Disney area.
Featuring more than 150 award-winning artists, this world-renowned show is a highly anticipated annual event for Guests, artists, collectors and art lovers.

Showcasing one-of-a-kind and limited-edition painting, photography, sculpture, jewelry and more, this prestigious show is ranked among the country’s finest outdoor art festivals. And there’s a lot more to enjoy, like amazing chalk art, live music, specialty foods and family-friendly activities.
When we first walked in, it was all Disney art, which was absolutely freaking amazing!  I was in absolute heaven and I was so glad payday wasn’t until Tuesday, or this chica would have been broke as hell by the time she left!  I’ve been a huge fan of all things Disney since I was very young and I really love Disney inspired art work.  It’s just phenomenal!  I didn’t think to bring my camera with me, but I was able to snap a few good shots on my handy dandy iPhone.

This painting of the seven dwarfs was one of the first paintings I came across and instantly fell in love with all of the vibrant colors and brilliant amount of texture.  It’s pretty impossible to see the texture in the photo, but it was really well done the way they did it and it gave the painting a very rustic look.  I loved it, but I didn’t love the price tag attached to this baby!

Next up were some of these little beauties.  I love any kind of a painting with Walt Disney & Mickey  Mouse!  Walt has always been someone I look up to and is such an awesome icon.  Without Walt…there wouldn’t have been a mouse.  And with no mouse…I just don’t know if I can even fathom the thought!
We walked through all of the art work on display, but kind of lost interest once the art work was no longer Disney themed.  They started you off with Disney & from that point my expectations were set & when you’re in a Disney mood…no other artwork compares!  Granted there were a few neat paintings that caught our eye.  There was a booth where a lady would take a whole bunch of photos of your dog and she would form them into this awesome collage, so the big picture looked like a photo of your pet, but when you looked up close, it was composed of all sorts of little pictures of the pet…very cool!
I wish I would have gotten the chance to see a whole lot more sidewalk chalk art.  I was expecting to see a few artists doing that crazy 3-D sidewalk chalk drawings that I’m sure you’ve seen.  I didn’t come across any of those, but we did come across this work in progress of The Muppets.  Isn’t it cool!  The artist was working on it when we walked up, but her phone rang, so I snapped this shot while she was out of the picture.  Pretty cool, huh?  I can’t wait for the new Muppet movie to come out in theaters!  I grew up on The Muppets & I still love them to this day!  I love Beeker, Swedish Chef, Fozzie, Rolf, oh shoot…I love them all!  Who is your favorite Muppet??  Inquiring minds want to know!

After walking around for a couple of hours, our tummies were talking to us and telling us to go get some food, pronto!  So, we ran through our options and decided to head to The Rainforest Cafe.  There wasn’t much of a wait & they have an awesome outside dining area right along the water.  Don’t you just love outdoor dining areas when the weather is gorgeous, like it was today?  It’s my favorite!  Well, the first thing on my list to order was a beverage, as I was quite parched.  I scanned through the list and seen that they have a mango mojito.  Well, after last weekend and experiencing my very first FROZEN mojito, I asked the waiter if it was possible to get the drink frozen, so he ran it by the bartender and they gave it a whirl & it was DELICIOUS!!  Then it came time to order food & I decided on the Macadamia Nut Crusted Tilapia & Coconut Shrimp. OMG…the tilapia was out of this world!!  I highly recommend this dish if you are heading to The Rainforest Cafe anytime soon!  I would give it my highest rating possible…yes, it was that good!
All in all, it was a pretty damn good time!  After we ate, we did a little browsing in all of the different shops and started making our lists of things we wanted and would either be back for or they would be promptly going on our Christmas lists! Anyways, hope your Sunday was as good as mine!  What did you do this weekend?  Later gators!
